AIBE Workshop 2026
Resources, Institutions & Development
The 2026 Workshop of the Italian-Brazilian Economics Association (AIBE) is organized jointly with LEAP-Laboratory for Effective Anti-Poverty Policies at Bocconi University and FGV Ceri in Rio de Janeiro.
We welcome paper submissions on any topic broadly connected to the conference theme and from researchers at any career stage, including specifically, but not exclusively: 1) Italians and foreigners based at Italian research institutions; 2) Brazilians and foreigners based at Brazilian research institutions; 3) Italians and Brazilians based at foreign institutions.
There is no registration fee. AIBE may cover the costs of travel and accommodation (partially or fully) for selected participants from Italy and Brazil.
To apply, send a full paper using this link by 17 APRIL 2026 (deadline extended!). Authors of accepted papers will be notified by 24 April 2026. In the paper submission form, applicants should provide proof of AIBE membership, which can be obtained here.
The conference will also feature a High-level Policy Session on "Energy Transition in Brazil and Italy". Confirmed speakers include: Edmar L.F. de Almeida (PUC-Rio) and Joisa C. Dutra Saraiva (FGV-CERI).

Bio
Rodrigo R. Soares is Leman Foundation professor of economics at INSPER in São Paulo. Previously, Rodrigo held positions at Columbia University, FGV-EESP and PUC-Rio. He completed his PhD at the University of Chicago (2002) and holds a BA from UFMG. He has broad research interests spanning health and demographic economics, economics of crime, labour & development, political economy and economic history.

- •AIBE invites submissions from all areas of economics and finance under the Workshop’s broad theme of “Resources, Institutions and Development”.
- •We expect to invite about 14 papers in total. Each will be assigned a discussant.
- •We particularly welcome “general interest” contributions – empirical or theoretical – that may appeal to a broad audience of economists and policy-makers.
- •We plan to devote at least one contributed session to “energy economics”. Thus, submissions are welcome in this area, too.

No, papers with any geographical focus are welcome. Theoretical papers are welcome as well.
No, applicants can be of any nationality but should be affiliated with an Italian or a Brazilian research institution. Italians and Brazilians based at foreign institutions, and whoever else is interested in interacting with the Italian and Brazilian research communities is also welcome to apply.
Yes. AIBE may offer travel and accommodation support for selected participants. If you wish to be considered, indicate this in your application. Final decisions depend on available funding and the number of applications.
High-quality papers from any area of economics are welcome, with a particular focus on the broad theme of "Resources, Institutions and Development". In addition, the event will feature a High-level Policy Session on "Energy Transition in Brazil and Italy", and we plan to devote at least one contributed session to energy economics.
Not necessarily. The co-authors can be based anywhere, although at least one co-author should be based at an Italian or Brazilian institution, or should be Italian or Brazilian.
